Soap, liquid as well as solid, is the result of the combination of a fat and an alkaline salt. This soap-making process has been known since Old time et until recently, it was very common for families to make their own soap. The result was a high quality soap made with non toxic, natural and perfume-free ingredients. Today, cosmetic industries produce with highly irritating agents, such as sodium lauryl sulphate, synthetic perfumes and other chemical ingredients.
It is possible, like it was not so long ago, to make our own soap with wholesome and natural fats and alkaline salts.
Although these salts are natural, it is of prime importance to handle them with care. The combination of hydroxides and liquids causes a rapid rise in temperature that can seriously burn the skin if precautions are not taken.
Once the method is well mastered though, the art of making one's own liquid and solid soaps is a pleasure that is shared with family members and friends, as it was in the past.
